THE DIRT KEEPS THE FUNK
- James Jamerson
James Jamerson, the late bass legend from The Funk Brothers, Motown Records' studio band, was firmly convinced that the "grit" on his bass was the key to creating the funky groove. He believed that the physical imperfections on his instrument turned into symbolic magic in his music. We've named ourselves after Jamerson's philosophy because we also believe that the secret to great music often lies in its "grit".
At Dirt Keeps The Funk Records we advocate for preserving the raw edge of music and avoiding overly polished tones that can strip it of its authenticity. We celebrate imperfection and embrace dirty, funky basslines, dusty beats, and laid-back, sharp guitar riffs.
This label is designed for Chill Out and Lounge music, where we release relaxing tunes in a laid-back Chill Out style. So, if you're looking for music that makes you groove and unwind, you've come to the right place!
